Campus Ministry
All are welcome here!
No really... all means ALL y’all, and all definitely means YOU.
We welcome all because God welcomes all, regardless of race or culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or relationship status. We welcome all and don’t check your Lutheran ID Card at the door (there isn’t one). We welcome all without regard to physical or mental health, intellectual or developmental disabilities, addictions, socio-economic status, politics, or anything that too often divides us.
Our unity is in Christ.
In fact, we don’t just hold our noses and ignore our differences, we celebrate the things that make you unique and affirm who God created you to be! Our diversity of thought, mind, love, race, gender, and any number of other things is not a barrier to community, but a blessing. Together, we reveal the infinite creativity of our God, simply by being our authentic selves in relationship with one another. We welcome all because God welcomes all, and we hope you’ll join us in our mission of “equipping all people to live out Christ’s Love.”
Welcome,
Pastor Alex Zuber
Things to Know About LCM
MUHLENBERG LUTHERAN CHURCH
That’s the home of LCM! Located at 281 E. Market St., Harrisonburg, we worship together on Sundays at 8:30am and 11:00am, with the 11:00am service live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube. You’re welcome to worship with us and connect with other students and community members. We have a dedicated campus ministry room on the first floor of the church that’s available to you 24/7 as a place to study, relax, and pray.
SUNDAY LCM DINNERS
LCM Kickoff Cookout is August 24 at 1:00 pm at the home of Tim and Kelly Zuber, 197 Diamond Ct. Harrisonburg.
The first LCM Weekly Dinner of the 2025-2026 academic year at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church will be Sunday, August 31 at 6:00 pm in the Campus Ministry Room on the first floor of the church.
Join us on Sunday nights at 6 pm for food, faith, and fellowship! We love to eat, and every Sunday during the semesters, dinner is on us! Sometimes we do nothing at these dinners, and with as busy as college life is, that’s ok! Sometimes we do bible studies, worship, service, and other activities to grow closer to one another in faith.
WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY - WAFFLES AND THE WORD
The first Waffles and The Word Bible Study of the 2025-2026 academic year will Thursday, August 28 at 8:00 am in D-Hall.
We host a weekly Bible Study on campus at JMU to give students an opportunity to grow closer together as we engage in God’s Word. We love to ask big questions and learn new things about the text, but it’s also a great opportunity to check in on and encourage one another during the week. For the Fall Semester 2025, you can call it “Waffles and the Word” or “Breakfast and Bibles,” but we’ll gather each Thursday morning at 8am in D-Hall for a Bible Study over breakfast.
LCM RETREAT WITH VIRGINIA TECH
Put November 7-8, 2025 on your calendar for our annual gathering of Lutheran Campus Ministry students here with other college students from Virginia Tech. It’s a great weekend to meet new people and share fellowship with our Hokie friends down I-81.
WHAT’S A LUTHERAN?
A Lutheran is a person who believes in the love of God made known through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, and empowered by the Holy Spirit we live each day into the grace we have received through God’s abundant love. Faith is a gift, not defined by our works, but in this gift, we find the freedom to live out Christ’s love!
DO I HAVE TO BE A LUTHERAN?
Nope! We welcome all because God welcomes all! We happen to be a Lutheran congregation, but that doesn’t mean you have to be!
IS THIS MINISTRY AFFIRMING OF LGBTQIA+ PEOPLE?
The statement of “All are Welcome” is not a bait and switch. We are a community of faith that practices radical hospitality. We’re not a “love the sinner, hate the sin” kind of campus ministry group. We believe that LGBTQIA+ people are made in the image of God, and reflect the infinite creativity of our creator. Your membership and leadership in this organization is essential to who we are. You are welcome here, and God delights in who you were created to be. To learn more about affirming ministries everywhere and understand more about why we are an affirming Campus Ministry community, we invite you to explore resources from the organization Reconciling Works.
