Bible Studies
Bible Studies, Circles and Other Opportunities
Before Work Bible/Lectionary Study: meets for a 50-minute look at the Lessons for the coming Sunday each Wednesday at 7:30 am in Wayland Hall.
Ruth Sigmon Women’s Circle: gathers for fellowship and speaker presentations, Bible study, etc. in the Augsburg Room the last Monday in August and the first Monday of each month, October-May at 7:00 p.m.
Sophie Moeller Women’s Circle: gathers for fellowship and Bible study from Lutheran Women Today the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. in Wayland Hall.
Mary/Martha Women’s Group: gathers for fellowship on the third Thursday of each month at a site announced by the hostess from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Nursery is provided.
Joy of Living: This women’s Bible study group meets on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. in the Augsburg Room. It reviews and discusses weekly lessons you prepare in your home.
Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study: meets the first and third Saturday of each month at the Thomas House Restaurant in Dayton. Beginning at 7:30 a.m., this combination of food, fellowship and Bible study allows participants to “dig” into the scriptures after a tasty breakfast.
Education for Ministry (EfM): If you like to learn in a “community” setting, and prefer good questions to easy answers, then Education for Ministry (EfM) is for you. EfM is a theological program for people to explore theology, the Bible, church history, and liturgy in depth. Offered by the School of Theology of the University of the South, students sign up one year at a time (receiving 18 Continuing Education Units per year), with a certificate presented at the completion of this four-year program. Other churches in the community participate under the guidance of trained mentors. Still an option?
Ambassadors Community for Theological Study (ACTS): Lutherans and friends from across Virginia gather in Waynesboro to learn from a renowned scholar and then gather in small study groups locally for support and discussion.
Women’s Retreat: Twice each year the women of Muhlenberg gather for a 24-hour experience of fun, food, fellowship, and faith development. The retreat includes singing, laughter, serious discussion, sharing, and time to cultivate friendships.
Library: The library is not only a nice room in which to gather, it is also a place to borrow books, DVDs and other materials to help with your Christian research and spiritual needs.
Additional Bible Studies are held in members’ homes. For more information, contact Minister of Christian Formation Diane Bayer (mlcbayer@verizon.net or 540-434-3496).
