Stripping of the Ott St. House

‍ ‍

Saturday (8/15), 8:00 am – 12:00 noon

We got the asbestos investigation report back on The Ott Street House and there is no asbestos present! The gas and the electric have been disconnected. So, we are ready to have the house demolished and create a playground/ outdoor space for Second Home and the congregation.

Before the house is demolished, there are some items to be removed and taken to collection centers or the landfill.  We are going to have a “Stripping of The Ott Street House,” and you are welcome to claim any doors, door hardware, plumbing fixtures or anything else in the house, including some tulip bulbs in the outdoor planters.

If you would like to claim anything or just help clean out the house, come join us. For more information, contact Mark Byerly (540-271-1478 or msbyerlype@comcast.net).

Collection for Minnick School

Collection for Minnick School

We are offering our congregation an opportunity to help our neighbors in need at Minnick School. As you may know, Muhlenberg has supported Minnick for many years, whether with elbow grease helping clean up their former home, helping the students shop for gifts for their parents or caregivers, or with monetary donations.

‍Minnick School helps students (ages 5 to 22) who have experienced challenges in public schools reach their academic and developmental goals. Their educational staff support students so they can return successfully to their home public school.

Currently, their clothes closet needs two types of items — pull-ups and sweatpants.

·   Pull-up type of disposable underwear is needed in youth sizes small, medium, and large, as well as adult size small. (Not the toddler pull-ups!) Some brand name ideas would be Goodnites, Ninjamas Nighttime Underwear, and Sleepovers Youth Pull-up Underwear by Cuties.

·   Sweatpants need to have an elastic waist and in the same size range as above.

If you wish to give a monetary gift in addition to or in lieu of these items, please place your check in the offering plate with “Minnick School Giving” on the memo line.

We will hold this drive August 16 & 23. Thank you for your generosity! If you have questions, please contact Vicki Heitsch (vaah@earthlink.net) or Karen Thomsen (kethomsen25@gmail.com).

On August 23, we resume two worship services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM and welcome the return of our Faith Formation hour. Groups that took a break for the summer are up and running again, and familiar fall favorites such as the annual church picnic, the Diamond Jubilee, and Jazz Vespers join new opportunities like “Funday Night.” These opportunities to grow closer to God and closer to one another give a glimpse of all that we are becoming. Join us on the journey!

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

Join Kathy Thompson each Wednesday at 10:30 am for Bible study via Zoom. This fall’s study will be “Disputing with God,” exploring biblical texts in which people enter into dispute with God, whether to protest God’s judgment, appeal to God’s mercy, or accuse God of wrongdoing. What emerges is a complex dynamic between humans and God, who learn to dispute with one another while remaining deeply committed to their ongoing relationship. It promises to be a lively, engaging study!  No previous experience in Bible study necessary, just a desire to explore. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/200491556  Or by phone …DIAL IN – 301-715-8592 and enter Meeting ID / Passcode: 200491556#

Camp G.L.O.W. Registration Deadline July 15

Glow Tell it on the Mountain

August 3 - 7, 4:30 - 8:00 pm

Planning is underway, and Camp G.L.O.W. needs volunteers! This year we are expecting over 100 campers, and there are going to be a lot of “moving parts.” We need group leaders and Thrivent Action Team Grants. You can also help by making donations including Bibles and snacks. We even have behind-the-scenes opportunities like helping to check campers in/out and after meal cleanup.

If you are interested in learning more about volunteer or donation opportunities, email Children’s Minister Ashley Saunders…

(saunders@muhlenberglutheran.org)

Camp G.L.O.W. stays with the kids all year around. A camper who received a story Bible last year read it for their school reading log. They have proudly read every story! Now they can’t wait to come to camp this year to learn more about Jesus.

Learn more/sign up to volunteer by visiting…

Camp Glow — Muhlenberg Lutheran Church

Register by this Wed., 7/15 using this link …
