Our Music Program
The music program at Muhlenberg is diverse and lively. Our music draws from many cultures and traditions, including Evangelical Lutheran Worship, Taize, the Iona Community, All Creation Sings and more. We enjoy learning music from around the world, sometimes in original languages, and our services are often enhanced by instrumentalists and vocalists from within the congregation, as well as the local universities and surrounding communities. Music is one thing that brings people to (and together at) Muhlenberg.
Our Music Minister, Matthew O. Thomas, oversees all of our choirs, and the many concerts and musical offerings that happen at Muhlenberg Lutheran throughout the year. From young children in our Cherub Choir, to adults in our Chancel Choir, and Handbell Choir (Gloria Dei Ringers), we give thanks for the joy they bring in their music! Choir Rehearsals
Choirs are open to all, even if you haven’t participated in the past.
HANDBELL CHOIR, GLORIA DEI RINGERS
Tuesdays @ 7pm
Led by Handbell Director Kath Wissinger. Rehearsals take place in the Sanctuary.
The first rehearsal of the Gloria Dei Ringers is Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 7:00 pm.*
CHANCEL CHOIR
Wednesdays @ 6:00pm
Led by Matt Thomas. Rehearsals are in the Music Room. The Chancel Choir is open to teenagers and adults, 10th grade and up.
The first rehearsal of the Chancel Choir is Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 7:00 pm.*
*Our initial rehearsals for choirs and hand bells are a perfect opportunity for newcomers to experience the joy without any commitment. Join us and Fall into Music at Muhlenberg.
YOUTH ENSEMBLE (3rd - 9th grades)
Sundays @ 12:15pm
The ensemble is led by Linlin Uta and meets in the Music Room. The Youth Ensemble will be preparing to play and enhance our worship on the second Sunday in Advent, December 7, 2025 and the 4:00 pm Christmas Eve service.
Rehearsals will be held on Sundays beginning November 9 through December 21, 2025 from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm.
CHILDREN’S CHOIR (Age 4 - Grade 2)
Sundays @ 12:15pm
Children ages 4 - 2nd grade are invited to join Matt Thomas in the Sanctuary. Catering to the spirited voices of our youngest singers the Children’s Choir will sing in worship on the second Sunday of Advent, December 7, 2025 and the 4:00 pm Christmas Eve service.
Rehearsals will be held on Sundays beginning November 9 through December 21, 2025 from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm.
Special Choirs
Jazz Vespers
Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 7:00 pm
Our Jazz Vespers will bring together scripture, poetry, prayer and music, building on our liturgical tradition of evening prayer and will be led and supported by melodious sounds of joyous jazz. Join special musical guests Just Jazzin’ for a vibrant vesper service of praise and thanksgiving! Invite your friends. A huge “Thank you!” to Bob Curry for spearheading this unique service.
