Storytelling Workshop, “Story and Place: A Season of Storytelling at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church”

What are the stories that have shaped your life? What are the stories you have to share? How do the places we are influence the stories we tell? This year, we’ve been given the opportunity for a special time of learning and growing in our faith that we’re calling “Story and Place: A Season of Storytelling at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church.”

We’re delighted to welcome Rev. Andrea Roske-Metcalfe to Muhlenberg this spring to help us explore the craft of storytelling and the ways stories impact our faith. Pastor Andrea is the lead pastor of Diamond Lake Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. She’s also a threetime Moth StorySLAM winner and the 2017 Twin Cities Moth GrandSLAM champion. The Moth (themoth.org) is an organization that celebrates the human experience through the art and craft of true, personal storytelling. The Moth hosts events around the country, and stories from these events are broadcast on The Moth Radio Hour every week on NPR. Pastor Andrea will host a workshop at Muhlenberg Saturday, May 31, 10:00am - 2:00pm to help us engage more deeply with our own stories, and those of others. Mark your calendar because you will not want to miss this! She will also serve as guest preacher on June 1.

But wait...there’s more! In November, Pastor Andrea will be back to teach in-depth sessions about how to craft our own stories to share. This will culminate in Muhlenberg’s own Story Slam the evening of November 14, as we gather for an evening of storytelling in community. All of these events are being funded by the National Clergy Renewal Program through the Lilly Endowment. Muhlenberg was chosen to receive $60,000 through a highly competitive grant program that will support Pastor Lauren’s sabbatical time this summer, as well as these storytelling activities for our congregation! So save the dates and plan to join in Muhlenberg’s Season of Storytelling! Watch The Chimes in May for more details and how to register for the May 31 event.
