Storytelling Workshop

The theme of Pastor Lauren’s sabbatical and Muhlenberg’s renewal time has been “Story and Place.” The finale of this congregational renewal will take place the second week of November, when two-time MOTH grand slam winner Pastor Andrea Roske-Metcalfe will return for a storytelling workshop — three nights for members to work on their own MOTH-style stories (around a common theme to be revealed soon) — culminating in our own Muhlenberg Story Slam event Friday, November 14. Mark your calendars now!

Nov. 6, 6:45 pm, via Zoom

Practicing the Craft - This will be a preview session for the same content on Monday, Nov. 10. This session is especially intended for those who wish to workshop their own stories the following week, and who want more than a day or two to consider best practices. Please also consider attending even if you won’t share a story of your own, but if you’re unable to attend the session on Nov. 10 and wish to offer feedback to the storytellers on Nov. 11 - 13.

Nov. 10, 6:45 pm, Nielsen Room

Practicing the Craft - Come learn tips and tricks, techniques, things to avoid, and everything else you’ll need to make your stories sing. This session will be full of examples and opportunities for you to practice the craft of storytelling. This is the perfect place to start, even if you missed the previous workshops back in May! Note - if you’re unable to attend this session, and if you’re hoping to workshop a story for the story slam, then please consider attending the Zoom on Nov. 6.

Nov. 11 – 13, 6:45 pm, Music Suite

Workshop the Story - Each night, four courageous storytellers will share their stories, live, without notes. The rest of us will receive this gift and offer our own by way of feedback based on resonance and dissonance. These sessions are powerful learning opportunities even for those who don’t wish to offer a story of their own, and the more people we have, the better these stories become!

Nov. 14, 6:30 pm, Music Suite & Wayland Hall

Story Slam - Join the Muhlenberg community to bear witness to all the work they’ve done to learn more about the craft of storytelling, as several individuals take the stage to share stories of their own. There will be food, music, stories, and community! You won’t want to miss it.
